Septic Sense Workshop

There are a t least three guarantees in life. Most of us know the first two, death and taxes. Often we overlook the third item: poop. Every living thing excretes waste. How we handle it can have significant impacts on our quality of life.

A well-placed and properly functioning septic system is an effective method of treatment and disposal. If you own one, congratulations, you are a sewer manager. It's operation and maintenance are your duty and your system's successful operation will require an educated, hands-on approach.

Learn the ins and outs and dos and don'ts of home septic system operation and maintenance at a FREE workshop on Tuesday, August 5, at 6:00 p.m at 6871 State Route 106 (next to Cameo)on the barge. Teri King, a water quality specialist from the Washington Sea Grant Program at the University of Washington is the workshop instructor. She has taught septic system education classes and written numerous publications over the past 20 years www.wsg.washington.edu

Does the type of toilet paper you use make a difference? What household cleaning products are safe? What about additives for septic tanks? What should you expect from a septic system inspection? How often should you pump out your septic tank? Can you grow vegetables on your drain field? Bring your questions and curiosity and learn how to protect this valuable part of your home.
